Hi, I’m Joey.

If you’re checking out my website, that means someone probably referred you to me, you were directed here from a google search, or perhaps you came across a drone video of mine on social media.

Either way, thanks for checking us out.  Let me tell you a little about me and my company, Vycarious Media.

Short version:

I moved to Los Angeles in my mid-twenties to learn about filmmaking. I lived off of a LOT of Ramen Noodles, and then picked up a job assisting a professional photographer so I could afford to pay rent and buy more Ramen for the next few years.  I then moved to Denver to pursue graduate school, got my commercial drone pilot’s license, and started a drone photography and videography company to keep myself from going crazy during a global pandemic.

Longer version:

I received my first camera when I was just thirteen.  My 8th grade classmates and I were on our way to a week-long class trip to Washington D.C., and we each were given one disposable camera for the trip.  While all my friends used up all their film on the bus ride down (taking pictures of themselves giving the middle finger and trying to blind each other with the flash), I was the only thirteen-year-old lying on the floor of the Lincoln Memorial and climbing the trees of the Arlington Cemetery trying to capture our nation’s monuments and landmarks with photos that were “different.”

After that trip, it’s safe to say I was hooked on photography, and I was addicted to capturing people, places, and architecture in ways they normally weren’t.  After college, I moved abroad to Italy where I studied film and wandered the narrow cobblestone streets of Rome every night looking for new and unique subjects to capture.

When I would post photos and videos online of my travels, friends and family would tell me how how they felt like they were “living vicariously” through my camera lens; “Your photography makes feel like we’re right there with you,” they would say.

After my travel visa ran out, I headed west to Los Angeles where I met a professional photographer willing to take me under his wing.  It was at this point that I learned of this wonderful new technology in the world of photography: drones.  After flying his drone over the beautiful beachfront mansions of Malibu one day, I stumbled across a school of dolphin playing in the waves.  I had seen dolphin from a boat before, but never had I been able to glide across the ocean surface with wild animals unobtrusively like that, feeling like I was playing in the choppy blue waves of the Pacific right there alongside them.

Following my time in Los Angeles, I decided to move to Denver to pursue my graduate studies in marketing and entrepreneurship.  Many of my friends in Denver worked in the real estate market there, and I would overhear them discussing their frustrations on how competitive and difficult it was to stand out as realtors.

I realized that my skills, experience, and creative eye with drone photography could provide incredible value in a market flushed with the “same old” types of underwhelming real estate photos and video.

I decided to get my commercial drone pilot’s license and start my drone photography/videography company: Vycarious Media.

Ever since that day on the ocean flying alongside those dolphins in Malibu, I’ve been completely infatuated with the sense of adventure and freedom drones provide, as well as the incredibly unique and captivating perspectives they allow me to capture with my photography.
